Fred Lazurus Graduate Studio Center at MICA
The existing historic 1915 warehouse
was transformed into a dynamic hub
of graduate study programs. The
under-utilized building went through a
complete renovation in two construction phases to accommodate academic programming. The largest design impact is at the first floor, which was a dark, lifeless space that has no connection to the main urban street it fronts. The new design gives MICA a major street presence by providing large windows at the first floor lobby/gallery area and a glassy new accessible entrance, which opens to art galleries, cafe space, and a new lecture hall.
