It began as a dream to make a new conference floor within an existing third floor attic by taking advantage of a tall, historic parapet facing the Downtown Mall. The result was a study on allowable egress travel distances, water proofing over occupied spaces, Board of Architectural Review requirements, and structural reinforcing of 100 year old masonry bearing walls. Design Develop was required to provide creative water proofing solutions to challenging details, while working around historic structural elements and details.
In the end, a clean, bright conference room opens out onto a roof deck that affords spectacular views of Emancipation Park and the Downtown Mall. The Board of Architecture Review applauded our minimalist approach, which left the historic building in the forefront.
