Plaza 285

Originally built in the early 1980s, Republic Business Center was a structure seeing many of it’s building systems and materials reach the end of their life span. High quality retail or office space in this location provides a valuable service at an important corner in Albemarle County, directly across from the Albemarle High School.

It was required to work within the limitations of the existing structure, as business remained operational during the renovation. Because of this requirement, the proposal worked with the existing entrances and exterior openings, while making their scale more appropriate, updating the postmodern building forms and improving the tired material palette, providing a simple, modern facelift that is easily legible to patrons and pedestrians.
