Our clients came to us with a specific desire for their little slice of central Virginia paradise: a site-specific house that emphasized a connection to nature through integration of outdoor rooms, while distinguishing between the private, the public, and the music studio.

The solution is to cluster three distinct building forms around an interior courtyard in a way that highlights views to the exterior and captures moments around the site. Home to both a musician and a "professional gardener", sustainability, respect to the sloping land, and the need for spaces to inspire creative output became priorities.

Working at a humble scale, with a realistic budget, and always being mindful of the impact of the building, we loved working with Brooke and Matt and so appreciate their approach to "home".
