Camp Holiday Trails - Med Korner
Status:
Under Construction
Charlottesville, VA
This two-story medical building for Camp Holiday Trails reimagines what camp healthcare can look like, prioritizing openness and daylight over a clinical feel. A deep, slatted pergola wraps the ground floor, shading a covered porch lined with picnic tables and bike racks that double as informal gathering space. Large windows and glass doors blur the line between inside and out, while a second-floor deck overlooks the campus below. Inside, a double-height lobby with a wood-slatted ceiling and an open stair sets a warm, residential tone before transitioning into treatment rooms, exam spaces, and a private pharmacy. The plan keeps circulation open rather than relying on closed hallways, with bright communal areas, a play corner, and accessible bathrooms woven between clinical spaces. Vertical board siding and a simple gabled roof keep the exterior in step with the rest of camp, while the building's scale and material palette signal a place that feels more like a cabin than a clinic.
