Wertland Street Apartments
Status: Anticipated Start Summer 2024
This 3-story apartment building will be located in the historic Wertland Street District just north of the University of Virginia. Due to its location and proximity to the namesake of the district - the Wertenbaker House - the project went through a very thoughtful and comprehensive design and entitlement process in order to preserve and reinforce the scale and character of the surrounding area.
The building features a mixture of three and four bedroom units, affording 45 total beds on this exceptionally tight, but underutilized lot. A rejuvenated courtyard featuring native trees and grasses serves to connect the new residence to the existing historic home. Parking can be accessed via Wertland Street, where the utilization of falling grade allows the garage to be relegated underground.
